4K and 5K
Students in these grades are learning how to get along in a large group setting with tossing games, musical games, and dodgeball. They are also learning the fundamentals of age-appropriate exercise, as well as jogging and skipping to music. Students will also learn ball-handing skills like throwing and catching. Personal space rules are taught from the first day. This quarter we are working on learning to jump rope and are continuing to work on ball-handling skills and learning to throw and catch. We continue to jog to music for warm-up and are doing age appropriate exercises. Their favorite games are Dr. Dodgeball, Animal Catcher, Mouse Trap, and Touch Turtle.

1st through 3rd Grades
We are working on basketball skills in grade 1-3 with dribbling, passing, shooting skills, and lay ups. They are shooting on an eight-foot goal. We started with jumping rope before Christmas as a warm up skill to replace the laps outside. To qualify for rope jumping contest, one must jump 2 minutes without missing. Once qualified, students continue to practice good skills and stamina. The rope jumping contest is Monday, February 13, at 9:00 A.M. 

4th through 6th Grades
We started on basketball skills after Thanksgiving. EVERYONE is learning the layup, shooting and dribbling. Teams will be formed, and we will play Round Robin intra-murals. We are working on rope-jumping skills as our warm-up with most of 4th, 5th, 6th grade students having qualified for the rope-jumping contest. This will be held on February 15th at 1:30 P.M.  We have been placed on 4 basketball teams with skills reviewed at the beginning of class, then teams play each other in round-robin fashion much like we did in soccer. I have encouraged all in 4th through 6th grade students to practice the correct lay-up and outside shooting with a one-handed shot only.Their grades this semester will be based on rope-jumping and basketball.

Students should remember to wear tennis shoes on the days they have PE.
