Arrival/Dismissal/Parking

 2006-07 Arrival / Dismissal / Parking Procedures

For the safety of our students, their families, our faculty and staff, and the Florence community, please read

and follow these procedures.

Thank you!

Ø   At all times, drivers should focus on traffic and the safety of students.  Drive slowly!

Ø   Cell phones are a major distraction and are discouraged.

Ø   Do not get out of your vehicle at any time unless your vehicle is turned off and parked in a designated area.

Ø   Parking is not allowed around either side of the median on the Cherokee Road entrance. This is unsafe and can cause traffic congestion.

Ø   Students should get in and out of vehicles ONLY on the passenger side.

Ø   Do not try to have a conversation with faculty or staff members who are on duty.

Ø When exiting on Cherokee Road, you must turn right only between 7:30-8:00 a.m. and between 2:45-3:00 p.m.

ARRIVAL

1.  Students arriving between 7:30-7:45 a.m. will report to the Library (Magee Building).  A staff member will be on duty.  Please use the Cherokee Road arrival route.

2.  All students are to be in their classrooms no later than 8:00 a.m.

3.  There are two arrival routes to our school:  Cherokee Road (front entrance) and Woods Road (back entrance).  It is best to get to Woods Road directly from Seneca (road connecting Woods and Palmetto).

CHEROKEE ROAD (Front Entrance)

This is the entrance for all kindergarten through 2nd grade students AND any carpool that includes a student in kindergarten through 2nd grade. NEW THIS YEAR:   A second line will also run in the morning and at noon for the All Saints' Church Parents’ Morning Out (PMO) program.  Drive around to the designated drop off points, marked by orange cones, in front of the Classroom Building. Faculty and staff members on duty will supervise students as they get out only on the passenger side.  Kindergarten students use the main entrance.  First and second grade students use the covered walkway (east) entrance.

WOODS ROAD (Back Entrance)

This entrance is only for 3rd-6th grade students.  Do not arrive at this back entrance earlier than 7:45 a.m.  If you arrive earlier than 7:45 a.m., you will interfere with the Royall School traffic.  Proceed to the designated drop off points, marked by orange cones.  All 5th and 6th grade students will enter the building at the west stairwell (playground side).  All 3rd and 4th grade students enter through the center hallway and proceed to the east stairwell (by the covered walkway).

DISMISSAL

1.  Students are dismissed at the same point of their arrival.

2.  All 3K, 4K (half day), 5K (half day) students are dismissed at the front entrance at 11:50 a.m.

3.  Full day 4K students are dismissed at 2:15 p.m. at the front entrance.

4.  Full day 5K students and 1st-6th grade students are dismissed at 2:40 p.m. Do not come for this dismissal before 2:30 p.m.!

5.  Students in the After School Activity Program go directly to the assigned rooms.  Kindergarten students are taken to Room 108 (Classroom Building); 1st-6th graders go to Room 203 (Classroom Building).

6.  Kindergarten students who are in the After School Program until dismissal at 2:15 or 2:40 p.m. are picked up through the car line.  After this time, pick up students in the After School Program from their

designated rooms.

7.  Students who are not picked up within 15 minutes of dismissal time will go to the After School Program.

8.  Rainy day dismissal is slower.  Please be patient!  Students are called from the covered walkway or from inside the buildings for rainy day dismissal.

PARKING

There are two parking lots:  Cherokee Road and Woods Road. The Cherokee Road parking lot is available at all times for parents or other guests who want to attend Chapel or other school functions. There are other designated parking spaces around the driveway (but not around the driveway median!)  The Woods Road parking lot is only for faculty and staff.

After School  Activity Program

All Saints' offers an After School Activity Program beginning at 11:45 a.m. (after half day kindergarten dismissal) and ending at 6:00 p.m.

If a student is not picked up within 15 minutes of dismissal, he/she will be taken to the After School Program. Students who regularly remain for the After School Program will report to their designated room at dismissal.

School Closings/Early Dismissal

In case of inclement weather, the Headmaster will have our school closing or delayed opening posted on our web site, WBTW and WPDE television stations.  Our school does NOT automatically follow Florence School District One for closing and or delays.
